The new mining company is called X2 Resources and, according to the companys announcement, it will seek value creating opportunities in the mining and metals sector. There are plenty of opportunities out there as the big miners like Glencore Xstrata, Anglo American, Rio Tinto PLC (NYSE: RIO), BHP Billiton Ltd. (NYSE: BHP) and others are shedding assets — or trying to. There do not appear to be a lot of buyers, and those that exist know how badly the sellers want to get rid of marginal assets.

The warehouses have been getting heat for more than two years for long delays in shipping aluminum to buyers. The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO) filed a complaint with the LME in 2011 alleging that Metro brought aluminum into its warehouses and then refused to let the stuff leave, which caused delays in delivery, higher storage charges and higher prices for aluminum. Coke claimed that Goldman/Metro paid cash incentives to producers like Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA) and Rio Tinto PLC (NYSE: RIO) to store aluminum in Metro’s warehouses during the 2008 and 2009 recession.

In January, Rio Tinto (NYSE: RIO ) CEO Tom Albanese walked without a payout. That's good news for the company's shar! eholders, because U.K.-based Rio Tinto had to write down $14 billion previous to his departure. Glance at a five-year chart and you'll see Rio Tinto has been on a downward trajectory for years. Unfortunate acquisitions marked his tenure and sullied his reputation.
